Weight loss isn’t something that happens overnight. When you first start out, it might be easy to stay on track; as time goes by, it can be easy to lose that motivation. How is it that some people don’t have this problem? Some people are successful at dropping the pounds and maintaining their lean figure. How on earth do they manage to accomplish that?
Before you do anything else, you should ask yourself why you want to lose weight, and then set your goals. Do you have an upcoming social function for which you want to look your best? Do you have a target weight you want to reach? Is more energy important to you, or do you need to lose weight for medical reasons? This is the type of thing you need to use to question yourself.
Write everything down to keep track of how you are doing. Avoid being a slave to the scale and weigh yourself just once or twice a week. Doing so too often will make you anxious. List everything you eat and its caloric content in your food diary. Make sure you write down little stuff, like drinks and snacks, too. This can sometimes keep you from making bad decisions when choosing what you are going to eat and drink.
If you are hungry, you are not yourself which means having snacks available. Those fast food restaurants will be awfully tempting if you aren’t prepared with alternatives! Determine your menus ahead of time, and take brown bag lunches each day. That way, you will save money too.
The most effective way to lose weight is to combine a healthy diet with increased physical activity. Try to exercise 3 or 4 times a week, but be sure to allow a few days a week for your body to rest. Make exercise fun if you are bored with it. For instance, if dancing is your thing, it might be fun to enroll in a dance class.
Eliminate junk food from your home, your place of business, and any other place that you frequent on a regular basis. It may seem cruel, but the reality is that if it isn’t there, you won’t be tempted to eat it. Surround yourself with healthy food and snacks anyplace you eat on a regular basis. Have fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts handy for when you feel like snacking.
Deciding to lose weight is your own personal challenge. That doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t rely on your friends and family to help make your weight loss journey easier. It is inevitable that you will have low points where you feel frustrated or discouraged and it is at these times that temptations can lead you astray. When temptation and frustration strike do not give up. Call on your support group to help you through it so you can stay on track.
